Baggage larger than 8”x17”x19” including backpacks, large umbrellas and other items deemed too large or a danger to exhibits are subject to mandatory storage in the coat room. Use of cell phones for talking is prohibited in exhibition spaces and theatre. Mobile devices, including cell phones, used to play audio tours must be connected to a headset. Restrooms are available in the Museum for ticketed guests.

After the guided tour enjoy the remaining time – is on your own – to see the rest of the museum, and if finished you can walk outside and view the 9/11 Memorial.

The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature the largest manmade waterfalls in North America. The pools sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood. The names of every person who died in the 2001 and 1993 attacks are inscribed into bronze panels edging the Memorial pools, a powerful reminder of the largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attack on American soil and the greatest single loss of rescue personnel in American history. Please REMEMBER once outside there is no re-entry into the museum so it should be the last thing you view. You meet your hostess and board the bus for the ride back home. We’ll make a stop for dinner – on your own – at a service station.

Mohonk Mountain House Resort
Location: New Paltz, NY Price: $575.00
Date(s): 09/24/2018 - 09/26/2018 Time:
(Monday – Wednesday)
3 Days, 2 Nights

Today we will begin our tour to the most elegant place in America. This is a Victorian Castle, Mohonk Mountain House. Any season is the perfect season to visit Mohonk with its magnificent views of the Hudson Valley. The resort is nestled in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, built on the deep-blue waters of Lake Mohonk in 1869. This grand 266-room Victorian Castle Hotel is one of America’s oldest family-owned resorts. Since 1869, our sprawling Victorian castle has hosted visitors at this unique 1,200-acre mountaintop setting. Tucked away at the top of the Shawangunk Ridge, Mohonk offers spectacular views of an incredible landscape. They were designated a National Historic Landmark in 1963 for both the Mountain House and its surrounding grounds. Dining at Mohonk is an experience to be remembered. Fine foods prepared from the freshest ingredients are the hallmark of dining at Mohonk. Proper Attire is required. We will have free time to explore the grounds, the Gazebo Gift Shop, the Magnificent Gardens and the Barn Museum or just relax in a rocking chair on the veranda.

In 1869, rocky cliffs rising above a crystal blue glacial lake in the Hudson River Valley inspired Albert Smiley to create Mohonk Mountain House as a resort where guests could renew body, mind, and spirit in a beautiful natural setting. Now, over 140 years later, it is still owned and operated by the Smiley family. What began as a small guest house evolved into a Victorian castle with fanciful turrets, local stone, and gabled frame constructions, set on 1,200 acres of spectacular scenery. Named the “Number One Resort Spa” in the United States. The Spa at Mohonk Mountain House is the resort's first addition in more than 100 years. The 30,000-square-foot-spa wing blends seamlessly with the existing building, enhancing the timeless ambiance of this historic resort. With a rich and storied history, the Mohonk Barn Museum represents quintessential America; a step back in time to the founding of Mohonk Mountain House. With items dating back to the 1800s, the museum showcases Victorian-era carriages, antique farm and kitchen equipment, a 1929 Model A Ford Station Wagon, and so much more.

Day 1 – Monday, September 24
Today we depart for the most beautiful place on earth, this Victorian Castle, Mohonk Mountian House. But before we arrive at our destination we will stop and experience the West Point Tour. This tour combines the West Point Story with the West Point Museum, our nation's oldest federal museum. We will visit galleries expanding on the wide contribution of both West Point and the U.S. Army to the development of our country. This tour has moderate walking with stairs in the museum. Then we will depart for Mohonk Mountain House and enjoy a lovely dinner prepared by their world-renowned chefs. Meals Included – Dinner.

Day 2 – Tuesday, September 25
This morning we will start the day with a delicious breakfast followed by lunch at the hotel, before we depart for a Hudson River Cruise. Each sightseeing cruise includes The Hudson River Lighthouses including the Rondout and the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse, The Wyndcliff Mansion, at one time one of the most opulent and extravagant homes on the east shore of the Hudson. The “Dinsmore,” built in 1936 for Mr. and Mrs. Lytell Hull Wilderstein, a restored Victorian mansion that originally was an Italian Villa design The benchmark of Victorian opulence. Newport Mansions at Christmas Time
Location: Newport, RI Price: $79.00
Date(s): 12/01/2018 Time:
Our first mansion will be The Elms, a summer retreat of coal magnate Edward Berwind and his wife Herminie, IT was a thoroughly “modern” house in 1901. So technologically advanced for its time it appeared to work “as if by magic,” it also houses monumental art works, including wall-sized Venetian paintings, Chinese lacquer panels and tapestries. See the dining room the way it looked when the house was built in 1901. Fifty years after they were sold at auction, the Preservation Society has completed the reacquisition of the complete series of 18th century Venetian paintings around which the room was originally designed.

Then be dropped off at the visitor center on the waterfront where there are several delicious restaurants to eat – on your own – before before continuing the tour. On our way to the next mansion we will first enjoy the infamous “Ocean Drive”. This scenic drive, also known as Ten Mile Drive, encompasses most of the southern coastline of Aquidneck Island. This area used to be farmland, but today is one of the most popular Newport RI attractions. Once you're out here, it's very easy to see why. It consists of houses on large lots that overlook the beaches and ocean. It was a favorite picnicking spot of the wealthy summer residents of the mansions on nearby Bellevue Avenue in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. I never cease to be amazed at the beauty of all the homes out there, and the breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean they enjoy.

Finally, we will end at the Breakers Mansion; a 70-room mansion that has approximately 65,000 sq. ft. of living space. The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America.
